Abstract

American foulbrood is one of the most devastating bacterial diseases of honeybees (Apis mellifera), causing significant economic losses in beekeeping worldwide. Although the clinical manifestations of the disease were known to beekeepers as early as antiquity, its microbial nature remained unclear until the late 19th century. This article presents a historical and scientific study of the stages of discovery of the causative agent of American foulbrood and its taxonomic identification. It demonstrates that the development of the modern understanding of the causative agent of American foulbrood was a lengthy and multi-stage process, including empirical observations, methodological limitations of early microbiology and the subsequent revision of taxonomy based on molecular genetic data.

Abstract

Dirofilariasis is a transmissible zoonotic helminthiasis caused by nematodes of the genus Dirofilaria, which has gained increasing epidemiological and veterinary importance in countries with temperate climates, including the Republic of Belarus.

The main reservoir hosts are dogs and cats, while blood-sucking mosquitoes serve as vectors. This article analyzes the etiological features, epidemiology, and regional distribution of dirofilariasis in Belarus. It is shown that Dirofilaria repens predominates in the country and is mainly associated with subcutaneous forms of the disease, whereas Dirofilaria immitis causes cardiopulmonary pathology and is detected less frequently. The distribution of the disease demonstrates a pronounced south-north gradient, with the highest incidence observed in southern regions. Particular attention is paid to the role of veterinary clinics in diagnosing the disease, including the detection of subclinical cases. The current absence of mandatory state registration of dirofilariasis in animals leads to fragmentation of epidemiological data and complicates assessment of zoonotic risks. Approaches to treatment and prevention in animals are also discussed. The need for improved monitoring systems and intersectoral cooperation is emphasized.

Abstract

The transition period in high-yielding Holstein cows is characterized by significant metabolic and endocrine changes, particularly in blood glucose levels. Despite the generally accepted tendency toward hypoglycemia in the early postpartum period, the literature describes cases of physiological increases in glucose concentrations caused by the stress response, endocrine regulation, and adaptive mechanisms.

This review systematizes current literature on the physiological mechanisms of increased blood glucose levels in Holstein cows during the transition period, including the role of cortisol, catecholamines, insulin resistance, and gluconeogenesis.

Abstract

This article presents results of a study of acute toxicity of the innovative veterinary drug «Coronacat 45» on laboratory animals and therapeutic efficacy of the drug for infectious peritonitis of cats.

It was established that the average lethal dose of this drug with subcutaneous administration to white mice was 10417 mg per kilogram of body weight (this is the 4th hazard class according to GOST 12.1.007-76), that longterm use of the drug is safe for cats, and that with timely start of therapy of animals with infectious peritonitis with the drug in combination with symptomatic treatment the drug is capable of providing efficacy of up to 90 %.

Abstract

This article, based on an analysis of literature data, presents a comparative analysis of the amino acid compositions of the main nutrient media used in cell culture and describes the roles of essential and nonessential amino acids in mammalian cell metabolism.

Proper substrate selection improves efficiency, accelerates cell proliferation, and allows for a greater number of passages without compromising cell morphology or viability. The use of additional amino acid essences is also common in biotechnology; however, their necessity in the medium is determined by the specific needs of the cell lines and requires further study.

Abstract

In the current conditions of intensification of animal husbandry, the volume of organic waste generated reaches critical values, which poses serious threats to the environmental safety of both the population living near farms and complexes, and for nearby settlements. If manure is misused, environmental risks arise, among which pollution of water bodies, degradation of soil cover and emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere take a special place. The article discusses modern technological solutions for minimizing the described risks through the use of various types of manure storage structures and floating coatings.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the basics of legislative support at the federal and departmental level in the preparation, storage, handling and use of by-products of animal husbandry. Changes in the regulatory framework related to the handling and use of by-products of animal husbandry as organic fertilizers are analyzed. The main provisions of federal laws and guidelines of the agro-industrial com plex regulating the processing of manure and litter, ensuring veterinary protection and environmental protection are considered.
